Nothing screams Summer more than our Prickly Pear Berliner Weisse beer, Prickly Puss. This seasonal beer is a crowd favorite, which is why we had to bring it back for the third year in a row. It’s our take on a kettle sour, but with an Arizona flair that separates it from other sour beers on the market. We love it because the fresh and fruity flavors of the Prickly Pear perfectly compliment the tart yet refreshing qualities of the Berliner Weisse style of beer.
This year’s Prickly Puss has an ABV of 5% and an IBU of 10, with a hazy straw color that looks almost too good to drink. On the nose this beer smells of soft wheat, floral cactus, with a touch of tartness that you can pick up before even tasting the beer. This tart smell continues into the taste, but this flavor fades into a soft wheat that finishes with the prickly pear fruit. Most of the flavor of this beer is in the finish, which is where you pick up the notes of cactus fruit with a subtle floral flavor.
Prickly Puss was made for the beer drinker that wants something super refreshing and loves tart wheat beers. It was brewed with Pilsner, Wheat, and Acidulated malts, as well as Azacca and Perle hops. The lacto, which makes this beer sour, was added into the kettle which creates the right pH for this beer and helps to create the light, subtle tartness that leaves you craving more.
